Christmas Reflections ~ A Father's Wish

I wanted to take the time to share this short story with all of you.  Although its  an urban myth, I enjoy sharing family friendly jokes, enlightening stories and thoughts that bring about a smile.

" During this holiday season, take time to be aware that in the very midst of our busy preparations for the celebration of Christ’s birth in ancient Bethlehem, Christ is reborn in the Bethlehems' of our homes and daily lives. Take time, slow down, be still, be awake to the Divine Mystery that looks so common and so ordinary yet is wondrously present.

The moral of the story is:

~ Wherever there is a will, there is a way - so never lose hope ~

Christmas Survey #1

Eggnog or hot chocolate?
Definitely, hot chocolate w/marshmallows!  I am chocaholic!

Does Santa wrap your presents or leave them naked under the tree?
Santa wraps all of our gifts.  Santa also has a habit of putting little boxes inside big boxes so people, especially little people can't guess what the gift is.  Drives my children insanely nuts.  I consider this my naughty for all of their naughty I have to deal with during the 11mos. prior to Christmas.  lol

Colored lights or white?
I think they look classy.

Do you hang mistletoe?
When do you put up your decorations?
First or second week in December.

What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Cornbread dressing.
  Spiral glazed ham.
Collard greens.
Potato salad.

Favorite holiday memory as a child?
Family getting together at my grandmother's house.  Spending time with Cousins, Aunts, Uncles, Grandma, Grandma & my mother.  Opening gifts, listening to the men folk debating about the football game and politics, women in the kitchen hustling to prepare Christmas dinner.  Children in my Grandparents bedroom playing games and bragging about our latest accomplishments.

When did you learn the truth about Santa?
At the age of eight and I remember being so heartbroken.  My fantasy of a rollie pollie jolly man flying through the air with reindeer was ruin.

Do you open any gifts on Christmas Eve?
How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
My tree is pre-lit, and I add, ribbon,  glass ornaments, keepsake ornaments, and candy canes
Snow: love it or hate it?
Hate it.  Give me Christmas in Aruba! lol
Can you ice skate?
Do you remember your favorite gift?
My ipod...opps that wasn't a Christmas gift!  lol  It should have been.
Seriously, if I had to name one because I love them all if would have to be hmm...the diamond cross my mother gave me.
What’s the most important thing about the holidays for you?
Being with loved ones.
What is your favorite holiday dessert?
Upside down pineapple cake!
What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Making gingerbread men cookies mmm...while listening to Christmas music.
 What tops your tree?
A star.
Which do you REALLY prefer: giving or receiving?
What is your favorite Christmas song?
Hark Herald!  The Angels Sing!

Feel free to do this survey on your blog as well, but please comment and let me know so I can come check it out.

Being Thankful For The Gift Of Today

In today’s world of instant gratification, it seems we’re never ever where we want to be emotionally, physically, financially, and career wise. Contentment often gets redefined as complacency. Finding time to pause, step back, and reassess how far we’ve come often gets interrupted by tweets and status updates from others we feel are already where we want to be.  So as we head into another joyous holiday season, I implore you to take a minute to reflect on your life’s journey so far and pull out those moments, relationships, blessings, intangibles, and/or tangible things you’re grateful for.

10 Things...

1.   My husband: He's my best friend and my #1 fan.

2.   My Mom: I'm thankful to be the child of a woman whom was very loving and supportive.  My mother is gone now, but never forgotten and always loved.

3.   My children: Because the love of a child is life's greatest blessing.

4.   My friends: From wonderful acquaintances to true and blue friends I am blessed with knowing a few good people, near and far, who I can count on, who care about me, and who want only the best for me.

5.   Accomplishing goals: To one degree or another, I tend to follow through on things. I thrive on having goals to strive for and am happy about the fact I've been able to achieve some of them.

6.    Being financially secure: We're not rich (whatever that is, monetarily speaking), but we're comfortable and have what we need and then some.

7.    Being able to work for myself: Thanks to my hubby's secure job I am able to pursue my dream of being an entrepreneur.

8.   Good health: Knock on wood.  I've never had any major--or really any--health issues. One can never know for sure what will happen in that regard, but I'm thankful that I've been blessed with good health.

9.     For Today: Everyday I'm able to wake up to another glorious day I am thankful.

10.   Being Me: Never let the deafening sounds of someone's silence at your success or happiness drown out your applause for yourself... You tell yourself "Well done", pat yourself on the back, give yourself a high-five and keep on keeping on... You must constantly be your own cheerleader, even if the only one clapping for you and cheering you on is yourself.

PictureWell, I'm just as happy as a pollinating bee!  I received another pic from a happy customer styling & profiling in Tee-iabo Designs wear.  Ha-ha  There are not enough words to explain the elated feeling one gets when the fruits of your labor are appreciated.

PictureAmoni of Portsmouth, VA turned the BIG 2 this past weekend...YIP-EPEE!  Grandma purchased this outfit for Amoni to wear at her party last Saturday.  Amoni's birthday party was a smash hit and so was her outfit!  Grandma said Amoni rocked her new digs and received lots of compliments!  Who knew Tee-iabo Designs would be...could be...party wear.  WOW!

The Devil Is Knocking At My Door...But I'm Not Going To Let Him In

`Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned. ~'Buddha

January 1, 2011, I made a vow to myself just like every other individual does on the turn of a New Year.  The vow I made was to cleanse my spiritual, mental, and emotional house of negativity.  However, since making this vow I have been tested every step of the way.  What's the use of getting rid of useless baggage if it keeps finding its way back to your doorstep?

Over the summer I put an end to what I thought was a friendship because of its unhealthy nature.  This person only reached out to me when they needed a favor or was having problems.  We rarely ever hung out just for fun and whenever we did get together, I always felt like I was some sort of self-improvement course they were taking.  This person would suggest things for me to wear, how I should speak, what I should be involving myself in etc.  If I told them about exciting news that was happening in my life they never seemed elated for me and ALWAYS said something to try and burst my bubble.  For instance, when I told them about my business venture, they said "You're not going to make any real money by hand painting clothing & selling it lower than the market price.  It's going to take you a long time to get anywhere with what you're doing.  Why don't you forget about this for now & come in with me on running a house cleaning business."  Not only was I hurt about my vision being Whacked with a 2 by 4, but also because they thought their ideal was superior to mine.  Never mind that my strategy was to build a clientele first,  you know...get my name out there, before deciding on how much my clothing was worth.  It was things like this and more that made me decide to end our relationship.  After, another selfish & mindless episode this summer  I wrote the person a really harsh letter about how I felt.  In so many words I basically told them "you go your way & I'll go mine."

This morning as I entered the chapel for morning prayer before beginning my Women's Bible Study session, guess who I see?  Yep, you guessed it...X-factor :(  I said to myself "Okay, clam down, they decided to join Women's Bible Study...so what!  It's a free world...just pray &  go to class.  After all they are not in your class group right.?  WRONG...WRONG!!!  X-factor is in my class group as well.  Sigh...God are you testing me or is the Devil knocking at my door?  Either which way I don't like it, not one little bit.

I did manage to get through this challenging ordeal, but bible study is every Thursday until April.  Can I grin & bear it?  Will I be able to enjoy the class without shooting daggers with my eyes?  Maybe they will request to be switched to a different class, because I'm definitely NOT!  They say God gives you tests to make you stronger.  I should be able to climb Mt. Everest after this one.  Pray for me...
